At the age of three, Leona Louise “Leo” Rose Moore became interested in singing and acting, which was inspired by her British maternal grandmother, Eileen Friedman, a professional ballerina in London. “My parents thought it would pass,” said Moore. She added: “I begged my parents for acting lessons and voice classes.”

Moore began acting in lead roles in a number of local plays and reciting the national anthem at a variety of events in Orlando when she was only twelve years old. Moore attended the Stagedoor Manor performing arts camp when she was only twelve, where Natalie Portman and other celebrities had previously attended. “She was a quiet, kind girl,” production director Konnie Kittrell observed, adding that she performed several solos but wasn’t “a spotlight-seeker.”

Moore began working on her own music when she was thirteen years old. One day while recording in an Orlando studio, she was discovered by Victor Cade, a FedEx delivery man who had a connection at Epic Records. Moore then hired with the label after Cade sent this friend a CD of her unfinished demo.
